The Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area is the fourth largest metropolitan area by population in the United Stated and the largest land-locked metropolitan area in the United States.  Residents of the area informally refer to it as DFW or the Metroplex.  The DFW Metroplex encompasses 12 contiguous counties and is divided into two distinct metropolitan divisions: Dallas-Plano-Frisco-Irving and Fort Worth-Arlington.

Dallas and its suburbs have one of the highest concentrations of corporate headquarters in the United States.  The Metroplex also contains the largest Information Technology industry base in the state (often referred to as Silicon Prairie of the Telecom Corridor), owning to the large number of corporate IT projects and the presence of numerous electronics, computing and telecommunication firms such as Texas Instruments, HP Enterprise Services, Dell Services, i2, AT&T, Ericsson, CA and Verizon in and around Dallas. On the other end of the business spectrum, and on the other side of the Metroplex, the Texas farming and ranching industry is based in Fort Worth. According to the Dallas Business Journal's 2006 Book of Lists, American Airlines is the largest employer in the Metroplex. Several major defense manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopter Textron, and Raytheon, maintain significant operations in the Metroplex. ExxonMobil, the #1 corporation on the Fortune 500 listings, is headquartered in Irving, Texas.

Our home prices are below the country average and we have great schools in DFW.  We still have lots land and great choices out there for new homes throughout DFW.   One big question we get from out of area buyers is about our taxes.  In Texas we don’t have a state tax and our schools are funded in the property taxes.  If  you run the numbers, the house payment might look a little higher than some states, but the largest portion of our real estate taxes is made up by our school taxes.  The average tax rates in the various cities run from $2.20 to $2.85 per thousand depending on the city tax, county tax and school tax.  So if you are buying a $100,000 home you can plan on real estate tax part of your mortgage payment to run about $200 per month - $500 per month for a $250,000 and $1000 per month for a $500,000 home.

To better assist you when moving to the DFW area at US Realty Team we offer a unique search option to “Search By Neighborhood”.  With this search feature you can get a feel for all the homes in a particular community, pull up a map showing the area, and see average prices.   We have many great neighborhoods in our Metropolitan area, and finding the right one is a challenge when you're coming from outside of the area.
